Reading Botswana's Two Seasons

Botswana runs on a genuine split. May to October is the dry winter — low malaria risk, concentrated game around what water remains, and June to August specifically for the Okavango Delta's floodwaters, which arrive from Angola and turn the mokoro canoe trips into the main event.

The exception is the Kalahari and Makgadikgadi Pans, which flip that logic entirely — November to March, the green season, is when the zebra migration moves through and newborn wildlife appears across suddenly lush pans that spend the rest of the year bone dry. Chobe's elephant herds along the riverfront are reliable either way.
