When to Go: Kenya and the Masai Mara

Back to the journal

June through October is Kenya's dry-season sweet spot — comfortable game viewing across the board, and the July–September window when the migration's river crossings shift north into the Masai Mara itself. Amboseli runs on its own logic year-round: the elephant herds are there regardless of season, Kilimanjaro on the horizon behind them.

If a beach close is part of the plan, December to March and July to October both deliver reliable coastal weather at Diani or Malindi, with whale sharks off the coast from January into March. We treat the Mara and the coast as one itinerary, not two separate trips — the logistics line up better than people expect.
